Another stimulus package? You’ve got to be kidding me.

Did I hear that right? Another stimulus package? No, I’m not talking about Barack Obama’s plans for his first days in office. Our very own Gov. Bill Ritter has uttered the “S” word in discussing his budget plans for next year. The pitch: $12 million dollars to help draw down unemployment in Colorado. That’s a hefty tab to throw some job fairs.
Colorado’s unemployment rate, at 5.2%, is near historic lows and nearly a full point less than the national average. Government has zero power to create private sector jobs. This “stimulus” package is designed to spread warm fuzzies – to reassure us our cuddly, friendly government is DOING something.
Here’s a more reasonable plan – let taxpayers keep the $12 million, so they can grow businesses and put people to work.
